Bead Innovative Ideas Just For Fun And For Income

by Kevin Aiken

It is fairly easy to turn your beadwork into salable products on a small scale, as you will probably offer some of your designs away, have other people on display around your home, or (in the case of jewelry) be wearing some of your favorite pieces on an outing. As word gets out, it's absolutely possible that somebody will ask you to build something for them. This kind of organic growth will make occasional earnings and leave you hungering to get more, although gleaning occasional earnings for your beading projects is pretty simple, it is significantly more tough to get it to a higher level and turn your pastime into a cottage industry.

I say this not to dissuade you from trying, but only to make clear that offering your beadwork for profit on a regular basis is more difficult than you might think. As with anything worth doing, having your beading projects on a paying basis takes persistence and work. Having said that, if it's something you're interested in, I'll walk you through some of the things you've got to be considering so as to put your hobby on an income basis.

If you're seriously interested in earning profits with your beading creative ideas, the first, best thing that you can do is not spread yourself too thin. Come up with 3-4 beadwork projects you can execute well and feel reasonably sure you can make a good profit at. Below, we'll examine some of the more popular beading projects, and their suitability for your purposes.

Necklaces: Probably the most well-known of the beading ideas people attempt for profit, and also just about the most difficult to do well at. If this is where your major interest lies, then you have to know that in order to succeed, you'll really need to work at carving out a niche for yourself. Try to keep some popular, underlying theme to your work. Stay consistent to ensure that your profile has a similar "look and feel." If simple elegance is what you do best, don't stray far from that in your "for profit" beading projects. On the other hand, if your choice runs to zany, outrageous designs, stay with that. Keep in mind that you'll want to be able to produce your designs in quantity, so keep your designs simple but distinctive. A big order, but by studying the market, you should be able to look for a niche.

Anklet bracelets: A smaller market than necklaces, however, these projects can still be a challenge to break into. A very common niche in the bracelet market is the "mother's bracelet". A populated market now, but if you have a modern approach, that specific type of beading projects can be worthwhile indeed!

Earrings: One more fantastic line of beading projects, and this one lends itself nicely to earning. Once you've perfected your designs, you may actually produce numerous pairs of earrings a day, and some capacity for mass production is important to profitability. Again, however, earrings are a crowded market, thus your beading projects will need to have some unique aspect to them in order for you to find profits.
