Since water covers approximately seventy percent of the earth's surfaces, there is no shortage of locations for ocean holidays. Each of the five major oceans offer everything from the icy waters of Alaska to the sunny beaches of Mexico. Each beach town has its own culture and flavor that will make one experience differ from another. You can watch whales or simply lie on a white sandy beach. The choice is up to you.

Some locales may be suitable for family holidays, while other will provide a romantic backdrop to a more intimate vacation. There are also niche types of locations, such as Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a long time favorite of college kids on spring break that has in recent years taken on a more family oriented casual atmosphere. For a completely different type of ocean stay rent a beach villa in the Florida Keys and take in the rich history, the world renowned seafood restaurants and the forty-two bridges that intersect the many islands.

The young and curious traveler might consider visiting Venice Beach, California. This state's current governor spent his youth flexing his biceps at Muscle Beach. Older folks may recall the influence of the so-called beat generation, which preceded the flower child, hippie generation. It is a fun place to visit with a great nightlife.

If you want have some movie star sightings, Pebble Beach could be your choice. Pebble Beach boasts the scenic seventeen mile drive, rocky coastline and a world class golf course. The course often hosts celebrity charity events. The rocky shoreline is not good for swimming, but the hotels and spas all have fabulous swimming pools.

If you really want your holiday to be ocean focused, take a cruise. Cruises are available in every part of the world. The experience is known for its abundance of great food and on board entertainment. A cruise offers the opportunity of seeing more that one land site, since they will stop a several ports. Passengers can leave the ship and shop and dine at each port.

The Caribbean offers many resorts that provide the best in services to visitors. You will be pampered in these resorts, but the fun could be wasted on small children. This could be an adult vacation. The Caribbean is a conglomeration of cultures, with English, French, Dutch and Spanish being spoken by native Caribbeans.

Whatever you are looking for, Italian, Greek Spanish to name a few, there are beaches for every culture. You can stay in a five star hotel with all the amenities, or you can sleep in a camper.
