Tips for buying DJ equipment
When you start out as a DJ, you might be quite keen to start earning some money. However, you will need to do quite a bit of preparation before you can take on your first job. This means getting the right DJ equipment and honing your skills, and of course you will need a bit of natural talent on the decks.
You should start with getting the right DJ equipment. No matter how adept you are at finding cheap DJ equipment, it's important to remember that you will need to have a bit of money put aside in order to get all the equipment you need. Most professional DJs tend to build up their collection of equipment one piece at a time, whilst honing their skills through lots of practice.
If you've got enough money to buy your DJ equipment, you need to work out how best to spend it. First and most importantly of all, you need to get your turntables. It's a good idea to spend more on your turntables to ensure you get the best quality available, as nothing else you buy will make as much difference to the sound quality as a good set of decks will.
If you have great quality turntables, you can save some money when it comes to buying a mixer. You can upgrade your mixer, along with the rest of your DJ equipment, when you start earning some money as a DJ. You'll find it's much more difficult and expensive to replace your turntables, and get used to using them.
Once you've got your turntables and mixer, you can now think about accessories. Whilst needles and cartridges generally come with your turntables, it's a good idea to get some spares. You'll also need good quality DJ headphones and two slipmats.
You should now be all set, and if you have any of your budget left over you can buy a PA system.
